Love interest: Oooh, this is where it gets slightly complex? In the later plotline of "Alien Starlight", Nuriyah has a mutual crush on Hot Spot. Private HIVE also has a major crush on Nuriyah, and she's afraid to upset him, so she's always polite and tries to extend her friendship to him, which he often interprets as his advances being recieved well, which only makes the problem worse. She considers him sweet, albeit misguided, and feels very awkward around him to a degree. Hot Spot intimidates her to begin with, then annoys her, but over time he becomes her first love, and she in turn wins him over as well.

Nuriyah Basir is the second-eldest daughter of four, in a family of six from the country of Bialya. During a volatile time in Bialya where relations with Americans and neighboring countries are strained, a crystalline blue ring that speaks with an alien voice appears before 14-year-old Nuriyah, welcoming her to something called the Blue Lantern Corps. Nuriyah accepts the mysterious ring without hesitation, and while her younger sisters are delighted and in awe, her eldest sister and parents are worried. Terrified that there might be disastrous consequences for their family should Nuriyah and her ring be discovered, her father Hilel Basir has Nuriyah sent to America to live with her aunt, Jinan. On the flight over, Nuriyah's plane is suddenly taken hostage by Mad Mod and the Music Meister, who had been hiding among the passengers and hypnotized everyone on the plane for the sake of finding and taking revenge on one passenger, Lois Lane. Nuriyah's ring jolted her from the hypnotic spell, and she in turn raced to rescue the pilot and co-pilot. While she was no match for either villain, the Justice League quickly came to the plane's rescue, and Nuriyah found herself face to face with Superman and the Green Lantern John Stewart.

After some discussion (and a lot of thinking on his part) John Stewart has agreed to teach Nuriyah the basics of combat and how to be a Lantern, at least until the mysterious Saint Walker can arrive to better instruct Nuriyah on her mission as a Blue Lantern. Joining him in this endeavor is Shayera Hol, better known as Hawkgirl, who is curious to see Nuriyah's development.
Unfortunately, after only a short amount of time training, on the first "mission" where John and Hawkgirl take Nuriyah along with them to answer a distress call, the three fall into a trap. They are spirited away to Warworld, coming face to face with its dread leader, Mongul. His intention having been to capture Superman's allies in order to lure the Kryptonian out, Mongul is largely unimpressed as a whole and plans to kill the lot of them, though he's temporarily confused and intrigued by Nuriyah's presence. Nuriyah, her own hopeful spirit bolstered by the courage from John's green ring, challenges the warlord, and Mongul has accepted. Now Nuriyah awaits what promises to be one of the most deadly fights of her life... IF she can survive.

WRITING WITH NURIYAH
It should be noted that "Alien Starlight" is an on-going multi-chapter fanfiction, and it is highly recommended that you read the story in order to follow as it unfolds. I consider it it my magnum opus, in a way. The rest of the listed writing is silly little writing exercise drabbles for her ship with Hot Spot, or else writing in which she isn't the protagonist but carries a significant role.
