DC headcanon project: Anarky

Description

Surely you didn't think I was going to forget about the DC Headcanon Project any time soon, didja? :D And surely you all didn't think I was going to forget about this baby that I love to no end?
First things first; his costume design here is definitely a blend of the pre-existing canonical design from the comics with elements from his appearance in "Beware the Batman." It was sort of inspired by artist phil-cho's take on the costume, as seen here. It helped get the creative wheels in my head turning. Insofar as I'm concerned, considering in an issue of the Anarky mini-series we actually see multiple costumes hidden in a storage space in Anarky's hideout, this means in my headcanon he does also have the completely white costume...which has a purpose I'll explain here shortly.

So how does he fit into my overall Gotham niche of my DC Headcanon Project?
Lonnie Machin set out to be a vigilante around the age of eleven-to-twelve years old, when correspondence with his pen pal from another country was cut off and he learned it was largely due to his friend's country being in a state of civil war. Primarily it was Lonnie's exceptional intellect and aptitude for learning faster than average that he used to his advantage, often causing chaos in Gotham from a safe distance. However, Batman eventually pieced together the identity of "Anarky" and tracked down Lonnie and gave him the fright of his life to scare him off such a dangerous path. Little did Batman know his attempt didn't work.
Within two to three years, Lonnie had constructed a machine without equal; a bio-feedback computer that, when used, attaches nodes to his forehead that directly feed streams of information into his mind as he sleeps. Through this method, Lonnie increased his brain activity and functions, eventually harmonizing his brain to the point both hemispheres fused. However, the machine had its risks, and when Lonnie realized his body wasn't able to keep up with his brain's rapid growth, he recalibrated the machine in hopes it would increase the rate of growth in his physical body. What occurred was a freak overload of the machine that caused it to crash, but not before it had physically aged Lonnie by a handful of years. Now a fifteen-year-old child in the body of a twenty-year-old, Lonnie Machin abandoned his beloved parents, allowing them to believe he had sacrificed his life to his cause (to create a true utopia in Gotham through means of complete anarchy and destruction of government,) and went underground in hiding. Thankfully, Lonnie had been planning ahead of time and had millions of dollars hidden away in Swiss bank accounts that he could access, and began building several small bolt-hole safehouses and a primary headquarters for himself in Gotham.
But the affects of his bio-feedback machine created a drastic change in Lonnie. He began to lose sight of his original goal, becoming obsessed with training himself physically to become Batman's equal on all levels, solely tunnel-vision set on proving that he was the only vigilante Gotham needed, and so donned a white version of his Anarky costume and began appearing in Gotham again, hell-bent on seeing Batman fall. It isn't until drastic events take place and Batman jolts Lonnie back into a sense of self and reminds the young vigilante-turned-villain of his original goals that Lonnie starts to regain his senses. Due to his assistance to the Dark Knight, and Batman's own belief that Lonnie isn't evil and his willingness to give the younger man a second chance, this time Anarky is allowed to stay in Gotham, provided he doesn't operate in a way that directly harms innocents. Thus as a result, Lonnie reverts to wearing a costume with his original colors of red, black, and gold (though he keeps the silver belt off his white costume.)

Anarky remains firmly of the belief that the system of government has been poisoned from the inside, and that the only way to truly save Gotham is to eliminate the cancer that poisons the system, or else find a way to destroy the system entirely. He is also prone to dramatic outbursts and emotional reactions that seem somewhat off-kilter, as a result of the physical effects created by his machine. While he's mentally the most intelligent human in the DC universe, and biologically 20 years old, he is still chronologically and emotionally his true age, which is five years younger than he appears. As a result, his ability to cope with and handle his emotional responses to many different events sometimes seems rather immature, over-dramatic, or downright confusing to other people. In his costume, he uses his flair for the dramatic to sort of enhance his presence and strike awe into those around him, and tends act like a thrill-seeker, feeling somewhat invincible behind his mask. He is however, much more calm, cerebral and genial when alone and/or outside of his costume, and especially in the presence of his pet dog Yap. He generally doesn't take up activities with the Bat-family despite his close friendship with Tim Drake, but he doesn't tolerate working with Rogues either. He has a vast personal grudge against the Riddler, whom he considers to be a good mind gone to waste on petty obsessions and egotism.

The sole purpose of this project is to be informative for friends, fellow fans, and the readers of my writing to have better insight into what the DC universe and in this case, Gotham City, are like in my mind and how that translates into my fan work. This is my own personal take on the character of Anarky, which is based off a combination of his depiction in the comics, "Beware The Batman" and the game "Batman Arkham Origins."

I like the colors on Anarchie better than in Beware the batman where he's all white.
